International Day of Peace Event at Courthouse Square

Press release from the Dayton Peace Museum

Update: The event will now be held inside 10 Ludlow just off of Courthouse Plaza at noon on Sept. 21. Free parking is available at the old peace museum at 208 W. Monument Ave., on-street or garages nearby.

In celebration of the 40th International Day of Peace, the Peace Museum is sponsoring an event on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. at downtown Dayton's Courthouse Square. The site is currently under construction and will open in the late fall of this year.

The World House Choir will lead off the event, followed by remarks by Mayor Nan Whaley, former state senator and board chair, Tom Roberts, retired Judge Jack Meagher, Uma Mullapudi of Heartfulness Dayton and Executive Director, Kevin Kelly.

The Peace Museum will unveil the Peace Education Initiative. The plan will expand the Museum's ability to reach local fourth and fifth graders from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds in and around the Miami Valley – both in their classrooms and at the Museum for field trips in 2022. This will include hiring a new Director of Education.

The event will allow visitors to take a peek at the progress of construction at the new museum site. The 5,000 square foot building, the former home of US Bank, will feature triple the exhibit space as the Isaac Pollack House, a multi-media stage, a studio, a classroom, a cafe, an expanded children's room and seating for 150 people at music events, workshops and private functions. Construction is being handled by Castor Construction with Lora Sebald Architects. Ray Zupp has created interior designs. Stratacache is the owner of the building.
