From conversation amongst the Pastor of Mckinley United Methodist Church, Peter Edward Matthews, and three pillars of the church, John E. Moore, Sr., Raymond Hummons, Sr., and Lisa Turner came the Dayton Equity Center. Late nights and long days from January of 2017 lead us to begin programming in the name of Mr. Moore. We continue the legacy of Mr. Moore and many others by intentionally listening to the community and involving local partners to create opportunities for social mobility.

Our Pillars Of Equity

Youth: Youth are not just "the future," they are central to our community now. Supporting their curiosity has resulted in creating weekly activities for students and families at Roosevelt Elementary, along with making scholarship, internship, and camp opportunities available.

Healthcare: From access to COVID testing and clinical care, to ensuring families receive food and essential products, the Dayton Equity Center inventively provides these services because we believe strong communities require a foundation of wellness.

Neighborhood Stability: We recognize that stable and secure communities require networks of mutual aid. A number of partners enable us to feed over 50 families a week, provide access to essential hygiene items, and affordable clothing. As the Dayton chapter of the nonpartisan Ohio Unity Coalition, we ensure that Black voters find elections safe and accessible; w

Workforce: The dignity and interdependence that come with career opportunities embolden us to find pathways for people to broaden their skills..
